Artist Statement
As a child, I adored animated media for as long as I can remember. I loved playing pretend, and emulating my heroes in the real world, taking lessons and ideologies from shows and movies and implementing them in the real world when I did not know what else to do. Iconic characters like “Spider-Man” and “Superman” taught me to never give up, while others like “Batman” taught me about determination and making tough choices. The media I consumed when I was young helped shape who I am today because of the connections I found to those characters and what they stood for.
Those lessons I learned continue to stay in my heart and help fuel why I do what I do, which is staying on a path so that generations ahead of me have the chance to share connections and have an escape from reality like I did, and for them to find joy in the magic of animation. I use this mindset every time I create an animation and stay aware of what I can do to keep my animations as immersive as possible.
If I can help at least one person see what I saw in animation through my work, no matter their age or any other defining factor, then I will have succeeded in my own eyes.
